ESXi sockets and VM Sockets

Hi Experts ,

Just confused about the cpu sockets we assign to the vm. Is it a good practice to assign more sockets to a VM that is available on the ESXi host. For example if ESXI host has on 4 sockets; will it be good practice to assign 8 sockets to the VM running on this esxi host.
