SYSPREP not running on XP clone

I have a VM created using a Ghost image, I have customized it and got it configured like I need. I am now trying to clone it (multiple times) to create new VMs. But when it is cloned and I startup the new VM the "VMware customization" screen appears for only a few seconds then it goes to the logon screen. When I logon and check none of the customization has occured (name change, join domain, etc..).

In the %WINDIR%\temp\vmware-imc folder the log has these two error messages about 2 pages down:

Rpci: Sending request='deployPkg.update.state 4 101 C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\vmware-imc\guestcust.log@The system cannot find the file specified.

'

Rpci: Sent request='deployPkg.update.state 4 101 C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\vmware-imc\guestcust.log@The system cannot find the file specified.

', reply='', len=0, status=1

error number 0, The system cannot find the file specified.

Any suggestions?

FYI - running ESX 3.5 & VC 2.5

- have the proper sysprep files in the approp folder in VC
